Oven Not Heating Up At All
On an electric oven this is usually the bake element, which often fails visibly: look for a blister, a break or a burn mark on the element itself. On a gas oven it is normally the igniter, which weakens over time and eventually cannot draw enough current to open the gas valve. Gas Oven Will Not Heat But the Burners Work
This is the single clearest diagnostic in the kitchen. Working burners mean the gas supply is fine, so the fault is downstream: almost always a weak igniter or a failed safety valve. If your burners light and the oven stays cold, you are on the right page.

Electric Oven Not Heating Evenly
One side browner than the other, or the top cooking faster than the bottom, points to a failed bake or broil element, a convection fan that has stopped, or a temperature sensor drifting out of calibration. Oven Not Reaching the Set Temperature
The temperature sensor is the usual cause. It drifts with age and tells the control board the oven is hotter than it really is, so the oven shuts off early. Oven Door Will Not Close or Seal Properly
Worn hinges, a compressed or torn door gasket, or a warped door. A door that does not seal bleeds heat continuously, which shows up as slow preheating, uneven baking and a higher power bill. It is one of the more overlooked repairs and one of the more satisfying.

Oven Locked or Stuck After Self-Clean
The self-clean cycle runs the cavity hot enough to take out the thermal fuse, the door lock motor or the control board — and it locks the door until the cycle completes. If your oven is locked shut and dead after a self-clean, that is a known failure pattern, not user error, and it is repairable.

If your gas burners light normally but the oven stays cold, you do not have a gas supply problem — you have an igniter problem. The igniter weakens with age until it can no longer draw enough current to open the safety valve.
