This Page Covers the Cooking Surface — Burners, Igniters and Controls

If the burners work but the oven cavity will not heat, see our oven repair page instead. A working oven with a dead burner is a cooktop fault.

"A gas burner that clicks endlessly without lighting is usually not broken — it is dirty. We check that before we quote you a spark module."
  • Single dead burners on coil, radiant and gas ranges
  • Igniters that click without lighting, or flames that will not stay lit
  • Burners stuck on full blast or barely warm — the infinite switch
  • Induction tops not detecting pans or shutting down mid-cook
  • Knob switches and touch panels that stop responding
What Goes Wrong

Common Stove & Cooktop Problems We Fix in Orlando

This page covers the cooking surface — burners, igniters and controls. Gas, electric coil, radiant glass and induction all fail in different ways.

01

One Electric Burner Not Working

On a coil range, a dead burner is usually the element itself or the receptacle block it plugs into, and the fastest test is swapping the element with one you know works. On a glass radiant top it is normally the element underneath or the infinite switch that controls it. Either way it is one of the quicker repairs in the kitchen.

02

Gas Burner Clicks But Will Not Light

The igniter keeps sparking because it is not detecting a flame. The usual causes are a clogged burner port, a spark electrode wet or dirty from a boil-over, or a failed spark module. Clean the burner cap and port first — a surprising share of these calls resolve with a paper clip and five minutes.

03

Gas Burner Lights But Will Not Stay Lit

The thermocouple or flame sensor is not confirming the flame, so the safety valve shuts the gas off. This is a safety component doing its job on a component that has failed. It is a straightforward replacement and not one to postpone.

04

Burner Will Not Hold or Adjust Temperature

On electric ranges this is the infinite switch, which cycles power to the element and wears out. Burners that only run full blast or barely warm at all are the classic sign. On gas ranges it is usually a partially blocked port or an out-of-adjustment valve.

05

Induction Cooktop Not Detecting Pans or Shutting Off

Induction tops fail differently from anything else. First check the cookware: induction requires magnetic-base pans. If the pans are correct, the fault is usually the induction coil, the power board or a cooling fan that has stopped, causing the unit to shut down on thermal protection.

06

Control Knobs or Touch Panel Not Responding

On knob ranges, the switch behind the knob has failed. On glass and induction tops, the touch panel or the control board has. Moisture intrusion under a touch panel is more common in Florida kitchens than most people expect, and it is repairable.

Pro Diagnostic Tip

A gas burner that clicks endlessly without lighting is usually not broken — it is dirty. Liquid from a boil-over gets into the burner assembly and stops the electrode from detecting a flame. Remove the burner cap, clear the port with a paper clip, dry everything thoroughly and try again. If it still will not light, the spark module has failed.

Service 01

Stove Repair

We repair gas ranges, electric coil ranges, radiant glass cooktops, induction cooktops, slide-in and drop-in ranges, and standalone cooktops. Elements, infinite switches, igniters, spark modules, thermocouples and burner valves ride on the van.

  • Elements, infinite switches, igniters, spark modules and burner valves.
  • Induction cooktops — coils, power boards and cooling fans.
  • Gas leak test on the supply connection at every visit, at no extra charge.

Gas Safety: What We Check on Every Visit

If you can smell gas near your stove: turn off the burners, do not operate any electrical switch, open a window, leave the house and call your gas utility first — then call us. This is the one appliance problem where the order of operations matters. Every gas appliance we touch gets a leak test on the supply connection whether or not that is what you called about.

How It Works

Our 3-Step Repair Process

We don't just patch the problem; we identify the root cause to prevent future failures.

Step 01

Diagnostic Visit

We test each burner, the ignition system and the controls to isolate the fault. Typically 30 to 45 minutes.

Step 02

Transparent Quote

Flat-rate price before any work starts. Approve it and the $79 diagnostic fee comes off the total.

Step 03

Precision Repair

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or OEM-equivalent part, then we test every burner through its full range before we leave. 30-day written warranty.

Service 02

Stove Installation

We install freestanding and slide-in ranges, drop-in cooktops and induction units, gas and electric — with the anti-tip bracket that code requires and many installers skip.

Service 03

Stove Maintenance / Tune-up

A cooktop tune-up is mostly about what quietly degrades: burner ports slowly clogging, igniters weakening, glass tops accumulating residue that traps heat.

Between Visits

  • Clean up boil-overs promptly — liquid in the burner assembly is the leading cause of igniters that click without lighting.
  • On glass tops use a proper ceramic cleaner, never an abrasive pad.
  • Never slide cast iron across an induction or radiant surface: a cracked glass top is not a repair, it is a replacement.

The 50% Rule

Repair your stove if the fix costs less than 50% of a comparable new unit and the appliance is under 10 years old. Elements, switches, igniters and thermocouples are inexpensive parts with fast labor, so cooktop repairs win the calculation more often than almost any other appliance. Ranges last 13 to 15 years.

AEO Guide

The one exception is a cracked ceramic or induction surface. The glass is not repairable and a replacement panel often costs more than the appliance is worth.

FAQ

Stove & Range Repair FAQ

How much does it cost to repair a stove in Orlando?
Most stove and cooktop repairs run between $110 and $550, parts and labor included. Coil elements and infinite switches sit at the low end; induction coils and power boards at the high end. You approve a flat-rate price before any work begins.
Why is one of my electric stove burners not working?
On a coil range it is normally the element itself or the receptacle block it plugs into. On a glass radiant top it is the element underneath or the infinite switch controlling it. Swapping a coil element with one you know works is the fastest way to narrow it down before we arrive.
Why does my gas burner keep clicking but not light?
The igniter keeps sparking because no flame is detected. The usual causes are a clogged burner port, a spark electrode left wet or dirty by a boil-over, or a failed spark module. Cleaning the burner cap and port resolves a real share of these calls without a part.
Do you repair induction cooktops?
Yes. Induction units fail differently from gas and radiant tops — usually the induction coil, the power board or a cooling fan that has stopped and triggered thermal shutdown. First check your cookware is magnetic-base, then call us with the model number.
I smell gas when I use my stove — what should I do?
Turn off the burners, do not operate any electrical switch, open a window, leave the house and call your gas utility first. Once the line is confirmed safe, call us and we will find and repair the appliance-side fault. This is the one situation where the order matters.
Do you repair the stove and the oven of a slide-in range?
Yes, both — but they are independent systems inside one appliance. Working burners with a cold oven is an oven fault; a working oven with a dead burner is a cooktop fault. If both are out we diagnose the whole unit in a single visit.
